Starlitt's Story Dump
« on: November 26, 2013, 01:23:22 pm »
Hello hello there dearest stalker! Welcome to my rotting dump of old stories

So, background. This was a (weird) story that I wrote this year. I wrote it in 45 minutes. I didn't brainstorm or anything. I literally just started writing and this happened. Every section, in an odd way, is actually based off my life. Oh, and please don't share it. Some people in my real life have read it so I don't want them knowing who I am. So. Yeah. Here. Let me know what you think. And I'll add more later.

Memory Scrapbook

It was a dark and stormy night.  It was two eight year old girls. It was a random meeting. It was a friendship. And it was the day Haley’s life changed forever.

Haley closed her eyes, thinking…thinking….

“Haley and Julie!” yelled Ms. Maria angrily. “What do you think you’re doing?” Haley paled as she stammered,
 “Work-working on my project.”
“No you’re not!” snapped the teacher. “You’re busy chatting with Julie. Opposite side of the room. Now!”
“But Ms. Maria,” complained Julie. “She really was working. We weren’t talking!” Several kids next to her nodded in agreement.
“Yes you were, and that’s the end of it. You two cannot sit together for the rest of the year.”
“But-“ cried Julie angrily.
“ENOUGH! ”
“Sorry,” Julie muttered to Haley as she slid out of her seat.

They had been ten back then. Haley opened her eyes again and stared out of the window. Tiny snowflakes drifted by the glass. Snow…she remembered the first time she had seen snow…she had been twelve…

“Come on Lee-Lee!” yelled Julie excitedly. “It’ll be awesome.”
Haley stood shivering in the snow. “I dunno…it looks pretty steep…”
“Oh, you coward. At least you’re not on skis!”
“Still…” Haley said timidly, “what if we lose control?”
“Nah. Here we go!” Julie screamed as she tackled Haley into the sled and pushed off.
“JULIE!” Haley shrieked with terror. “Tree!”
Julie’s gleeful laughter resounded in her head…

Haley smiled at the memory. They had ended up flying out of the sled, but it was too close to the bottom of the hill to matter. She recalled another of her and Julie’s adventures…

“Well.” Julie peered down at the bottom of the canyon. “We do have a problem, don’t we.”
Haley glanced over at the innocent looking bottle floating in the blue water.
“I would say we do, yes.”
Julie looked pained. “Now how do you suppose we get out of this one?” she moaned. “I can’t just leave it there after the old man was nice enough to let me have my fourteenth birthday over here.” She glanced at her watch. “He’s due back in twenty minutes. And if he sees that bottle in his precious pool…” She drew a finger over her slim throat, while gazing despairingly at the deep canyon.
Suddenly, Haley got a crazy idea. “What if,” she slowly ventured, “what if you leaned over the side and I held your ankles?”
Julie stared at her. Then lay down on the ground. “You’re a genius! An insane one, but a genius all the same!”
Haley, bewildered, sat down and held her ankles as Julie leaned in. “You got it?” she asked immediately.
“Patience!” responded the muffled voice. “Just a little bit farther...AHH!!” she screamed as Haley tumbled in on top of her…

Haley smiled as she got up and went to the kitchen. Julie had often told that story in high school, making it seem so dramatic! Her favorite audience, however, was her boyfriend Steven…Haley hadn’t liked Steven much back when she was sixteen…

“Hey thanks for calling. I’m away from the phone just now, so just leave me a message and I’ll get back to ya, pinkie promise.”
Haley sighed as she hung up the phone for the fourth time that week. Julie hadn’t been answering her calls or her emails. Just as she slumped back on the bed, her phone rang. She jumped up and grabbed it.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Lee-Lee, its me, Julie. Listen, I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to cancel our plans for next Monday.”
Haley’s heart sank. “Oh…okay…but why?”
“Well, Steven and his family invited me to come with them to the springs, so-“
Anger flared up in Haley. “Oh. Alright then, see you around,” she said in her coldest voice, then slammed down the phone and sank onto her bed.
She hated that stupid Steven. He was ruining everything, absolutely everything! Why was Julie so set on ignoring her…?

Haley walked into the little homely kitchen, and over to the table, where her eyes fell upon the black bag she was searching for. She and Julie had gotten matching ones when they went to college, and at their thirtieth high school reunion, they had still had them…

“LEE-LEE!” Julie grinned her old impish grin as she rushed over to her childhood friend. “How are you? I haven’t seen you in ages! And look, we both still have our graduation bags! How’s life? Your family? And how’s your hamster? You still have one, right? And-”
“You haven’t changed much, have you?” laughed Haley. “My family and I are doing wonderful, how are yours?”
“Not so good at the moment, unfortunately,” admitted Julie with a sigh. “But it’s no good moping.”
Haley tactfully changed the subject to more pleasant topics, and they began discussing Haley’s new hamster…

Haley reached for the black bag and opened it. Inside was a letter, which she pulled out and opened. It was dated six months prior…

Dearest Lee-Lee,
Well, they confirmed it today. I have about six months to live, so they say, so I just wanted to let you know that you were always my best friend, and you always will be. I wrote a longer goodbye but I can’t send it here, so when you come visit me I’ll give it to you. I must put down the pen now. I am getting tired.
Julie...

Haley stared into space. I am getting tired…Julie, brave, loyal, adventurous, mischievous Julie was still alive for the moment, Haley had confirmed, but she was getting tired… getting tired…tired…

The letter fell to the ground with barely a whisper.
